Awesome BBQ. I'm a real fan. If you are driving and from out of town, your mouth will be happy. Had the pulled pork, partner had ribs. Meat is unadulterated, season yourself. Very good.

Not impressed that a restaurant that is renowned for its ribs runs out of ribs on a Saturday night. I ordered the pulled pork and chicken with Broccoli bake and garlic mash. Seriously, our meal arrived within 2mins of ordering so obviously everything was already prepared. Chicken was all I can say was edible. Very disappointed.

I've eatten here since they were out if a tiny drive thru shack down Island Ave. It was delicious then and they haven't lost their touch. My favorite is the pulled pork with Mac and cheese side. I've tried all their meats and there isn't even one I didn't enjoy. My favorite still stands. The owner is very cool and she recommended the Peach Crisp with ice cream. I gotta say, she understated how great it was.

Easily the best place for food in LaGrande. Probably the best in East Oregon. Insane good BBQ. I've been to at least 100 BBQ joints from trucks, to expensive yuppie joints. In Seattle, Portland, Kansas City, Boise, Minneapolis, Phoenix, and many places in between. This is without a doubt the best. We were lucky enough to come here with a huge group and got to try almost everything on the menu. The Tri Tip, Brisket, Chicken, Pulled Pork are all on par with all (and better than most) competition meats I've had. Their sides are all great too. The corn bread is the best I've ever had, and the Mac & Cheese is the best I've had at a restaurant. Broccoli & Cauliflower bake (b&c with cheese) are nuts, and I don't even like cauliflower! The sauce is completely different than any other sauce I've ever had. This place is legit. Eat it all, cause it's all soooooo good.

Since we aren't from the area, we were excited to try some local favorites. When we asked a local where we should go she recommended the BBQ shack. To be honest, I am not sure why she recommended this place when Portland has such a thriving foodie scene. Don't get me wrong, this place wasn't bad, but there really wasn't anything super impressive about it. The meat was hit and miss, the service was just kinda OK, and the sides were a bit lack luster. Again, not a bad place to grab some BBQ, though I don't really know what other options you have in the area. The decor was fun and sort of eclectic, and it was in a really cool part of town. As always, we appreciated the lack of sales tax, and the opportunity to enjoy something new. We look forward to getting back to Portland soon!

I have had barbecue all over: in Texas, in Oklahoma, in Georgia. Food like this should make Oregonians feel proud that there is such a thing as Oregon barbecue and it is just as good as what they can do in the south. We had brisket and tri tip. Both were served un-sauced, because the meat does not need it. The brisket was flavorful, tender, and moist, with thick hunks of fat. The tri tip was excellent: a thin smoke ring, but delicious bark and moist, tender meat. Good barbecue is all about balance. Unlike what many pit masters seem to think, I don't think the goal is to just dump as much smoke on it as possible. A smoke ring that is too thick is too frequently associated with meat that is too dry. Sauce on the side was tangy, slightly spicy, vinegary - delicious. I liked it a lot better than the sticky, sweet, catsupy Kansas City style you see at most places. Sides were wonderful: macaroni and cheese that was a perfect consistency, potato salad with exactly the right amount of dill. Service was friendly, low-key, and fast. They serve Terminal Gravity beer in addition to your standard macrobrews. If you don't like this place, you must be a closet vegetarian.

CLOSED! Now this is the shack-craft and woodworking shop, NOT BBQ! Came by here hoping for food and terribly disappointed!

I have to start with the food is decent. It is just not authentic. The sauce which is the staple of BBQ tastes and looks like the tomato sauce country folk use on meat loaf. Tomato sauce is not BBQ sauce! I ordered the brisket and it was good but tasted like it was oven baked. Grandma oven bakes meat. Grillers smoke brisket for hours. The sides I had were potato salad and a broccoli cauliflower mash. The potato salad was ok it just has olives in it? Southern potato salad usually has celery but in this area of the country everything probably freezes over so fresh vegetables may be a premium. The mash was delicious. The corn bread was home made and tasted heavenly. The place is clean and the service is good. This place is good but can be so much better.

Fanytastic! Great flavor nice bbq sauce on the table. All the sides are solid. Service was informal friendly. Great portion sizes for the money. My only suggestion is to heat up the cornbread and serve with some honey butter.

Lunch was $8.95 for a trip sandwich, side , and drink. The food was excellent and that's cheaper than eating at crappy subway. Great food for the money, very friendly service.

My husband and I have been here many times The iced tea is real and excellent. The meat is good in flavor as is the BBQ sauce. The tri-tip is our favorite although all of the meats have been awesome (we haven't tried the ribs yet). The Mac and Cheese is yummy but the cauliflower broccoli bake is AMAZING!!! It doesn't taste like frozen vegetables and fake cheese it tastes real and fresh. On tip of all that the prices are outrageously affordable, you get your moneys worth. I would go here any time!

Driving across state, my dad and I stopped in la grande for dinner. Came across BBQ shack on yelp, saw tri-tip, and was sold. The food was good BBQ, solid meal. Also, the owner was very friendly and gave us tips for the rest of our drive. I'd highly recommend for a good, quick meal.

Great pulled pork sandwiches, and I had the brisket which was great. The mashed potatoes and broccoli cheese coliflower.

Food was pretty good and the service was even better!! They make their own BBQ sauce and it is awesome! I would def recommend to anyone that finds themselves in this town!

Just had the best barbeque ever!! I had the brisket and my husband had the chicken. Also shared the peach crisp and icecream. Excellent service, the staff are all so friendly. Next time we come through La Grande, we will definitely stop by. Best meal in town. As my granny used to say..."It's so good, it'll make your tongue knock your brains out!"
